I actually learned how to gradient shade thanks to this tutorial [link] but I go about it a slightly different way, using clipping masks.

XD Sorry I've wanted to know how to Gradient Shade for ages~ XDD All the other tutorials I've seen aren't too mindful of the fact I uhhh... not unnecessarily legally acquired Photoshop and have no idea how to do some of the more complex things. ^^;

ah, that layer clipping mask thing helped me. I didn't know you could do that so all I did before is shade and color things all on the same color layer while the transparency was locked.
